Registration Fee: $900

CPE Credit: 12 Hours (6 in Accounting field of study; 6 in Auditing)

Intended Audience:
This course is for people experienced in AROs and for companies already using the system for AROs as well as new clients. Although it covers all the system mechanics and efficiencies, it also focuses on:

* Potential audit concerns
* Explanatory reporting and controls
* System options
* Areas where we have observed practice divergence.

Therefore the intended audience is either:

  1. Accounting managers or accounting resource answerable for AROs
  2. Existing users dealing with settlement issues, efficiencies, managing multiple scenarios, or special accounting.

Description:
The course will review the ARO theory and issues caused by the statement in practice. Initially the focus will be on providing a full understanding of options and methods within the system (eg Standard vs Avg. Rate Methods) as well as settlement/partial settlement issues. Also reporting support, review, and control methods will be covered.

With this background the focus will be shift to efficiently updating estimated cash flows, dealing with and developing multiple scenarios, settlement and partial settlement issues, and journal entries and tracking for regulated and non-regulated entities.  Both set up and processing for site and “mass” ARO’s will be covered as well as new features. Includes the preprocessor to build alternative cash flow scenarios, settlement changes, regulatory entries and reporting, more efficient input methods (Future Cash Flow Template Import, grid edits, etc.), and reporting changes.

Also, the course covers ARC’s, partial ARC retirements, anomalies that occur, and monitoring the liability against the cash flows.  For regulated companies, the set up and techniques for having the settlement costs flow against the depreciation ledger and the liability are also discussed, as well as the depreciation reserve reclass entry to a regulatory liability.

The course includes example handouts, on-line exercises, and a workbook.
